The infinite conference room is open

Earlier this year we said our seminar “conference room” was growing to infinity. It is open.

Utility Finance and Accounting for Non-Financial Professionals, a seminar Dr. Joel Berk taught to tens of thousands of people, is now a self-paced online course. Enrollment is open at financialaccounting.com/ufanfp.

We said summer. It is September. Turning a three-day seminar into something you can take at your desk took longer than we planned, mostly because we would not ship it half-built. We wanted to make sure that participants master the material.

What is new

  • Short topics. Three days became eight sections of topics that average about 14 minutes. Do one over coffee, or knock out five on a flight.
  • Recaps and quizzes throughout, so the material stays with you.
  • A printed, spiral-bound course book, mailed to you when you enroll. Joel still says “turn to page,” and you can. We will send a bookmark to save your spot between sessions!
  • A new topic on AI’s impact on the utility industry.
  • A diploma certificate when you finish.
  • Start any day. Stop and resume whenever you like.

What is not new

Same instructor. Same curriculum. Same examples pulled from real annual reports, and the same jokes. Joel could only teach in one room at a time. That room is now open every day, in every time zone.

The part that has not changed since 1982

FAI has taught one subject for four decades: how finance and accounting work at regulated utilities, and why they work differently than anywhere else. More than 1,500 seminars, in corporate conference rooms and a few hotels. That teaching was recorded, so the content taught in those rooms is in this course.

PS – Word of mouth filled those conference rooms for four decades. If a colleague should know the course is open, send this on. If it is more than a few colleagues, ask us about group pricing.
